Torontofred Themeter you're using is either an average AC meter or True RMS. In either, the wave form must be sine wave. If you have any other, then you won't be reading it correctly.

Gerard Vaughan The output is said to be d.c. Ate you saying the makers used an instantaneous peak reading ammeter ? But in any case we don't know if the current is time varying at 100-120 cps. It might be smooth.

Garabonczias Dear All! Some important points: (1) The current should be DC (in AC the arc would disappear 100 times in a second...!). (2) That DC current is never smooth during welding, as contact is bad, arc has haunting (continously changing) resistance

One more thing: the clamp meter should be TRMS one, with high Crest Factor. Than it will show a better value. BUT, the current waveform is so distorted, you cannot expect a really good meaured value.

hitman247 Scesc, I have bought this welder, but unfortunately turned the vr1 potentiometer on main board upside, can you please tell me the original value so I can set it back? unfortunately my welder does not have the trimmer for calibrating display, only fixed resistor or maybe entire small PCB from under display is missing, not visible good enough. thank you

REXX5000 the output on welders is AC. not DC. especially these type of welders.

REXX5000 @hitman247 remove the fixed resistor and replace with a potentiometer. that's the hack. then measure the output with clampmeter and adjust the the current output on the welders display. enjoy.
