The exterior is neoprene to protect the hands from wind, cold and water and the inside is a very nice, soft, fuzzy material that is quite comfy. The hook-and-loop fastener flap allows you to secure these pogies to your kayak or surfski paddle and then you simply reach in and grab your paddle shaft. Hands can easily be withdrawn from them so they are perfectly safe. I've been looking for a pair for my winter training and I'm very glad I found these.
