As shown in the photo, you twist (near the top of the torch) to turn on or off. The black button does nothing. Well manufactured with o-rings and good quality heat shrink. It probably doesn't have any smarts in it, to regulate the voltage. But 3AAA for 1 led should have extremely long run time.
