The ear side of things worked great. I could not understand my wife while she was using the microphone. We use the UV5R radios to assist us in docking our large boat. Trying to yell to her at the front of the boat is difficult at best. We went back to the original headset with better results. Maybe I was doing something wrong. I had her clip the mic section to the collar of her shirt near her throat. The audio was muffled to the point I could not understand 8-% of what she was saying. This is a critical phase of operating a large boat when you just have 2 people to dock it. Please let me know of any suggestions or comments as I would like to give it another shot. Pretty solid, just what you expect. Built well, works well, enough said. You might be able to put a foamy end on the earpipe. I am going to try mine now, the included urethane one isn't very comfortable, they never are.
