otherwise product is great, but the bottom plate is not at all aluminuim as magnets stick to it, so it is steel. other shorcoming is that the banana jacks screws below the bottom plate are too long for the rubber bumpers supplied with it, so I bought thicker bumpers to keep it from scratching the table I use it on. the steel base might be used to keep some carbonsteel/mild steel parts close by, but it is not good at all if the circuit being twsted is sensitive to magnetic fields such as Magnetoresistive or Hall sensors.
