bob_r Theseare known to fail in this way if you use a low power battery...

There were NO instructions at all in the package!!!!!! It east to wire up though, but figuring out how to switch from Manual to Automatic is still a question. The unit sometimes counts down but will not allow you to place the probes on the nickel strip and press down to get a good weld. It discharges the current and continually discharges from the battery until you lift off of the probes. I don't know if i just have a bad unit or what. I have contacted them but no response as of yet. It appears to have had a short from the ground terminal to the large capacitor, having a burn spot on the side of it. I purchased this from USA.

bob_r thiswill happen if you attempt to use it on manual without a seperate foot switch or similar attached

Hi I am using a 12 volt car battery as a supply and on switching on was not able to change mode from manual to automatic. Having set the "E" to 20 tried to weld a nickel strip to a battery and as it welded the unit caught fire on one of the "MOS" tubes and as such has burnt out. See image supplied. Is there any guarantee on this item.

bob_r youcan repair with new Mosfets, in the meantime, if you know which is the faulty fet, it may work if you remove it whilst waiting for new ones, but ensure that your battery will supply sufficient power continually, power drops whilst in contact and will burn the fets if it drops to far..

Looks reasonably well made. Performed about 10 spot welds to check best setting and then one of the main Fets blew up. Now has a dead short across the Fet making it unusable. Disappointing as it looked like it may be very useful.

Q: Will this work on .15mm pure nickel strips? If so, how many ampere-hour battery is required?

Nice product and easy to install, I like the convenience of it, however having initially installed as instructed and as I always do, I found that all motors were running the wrong way, but after changing the direction all is well..

Appears to be good Glasses, well made and packaged, reading high magnification reading area could have been bigger as current size requires moving of the Head rather than just the eyes, but still good value and usable.
